The Peacekeeper is a fact based fiction. The author is an officer of Bangladesh Army, who saw action in the Democratic Republic Of Congo (formerly Zaire), one of the largest countries in Africa and one of it’s poorest.

The protogonist of the novel is Major Samir Iqbal ind it is through his eyes and experiences the reader comes face to face with the hazards in peace keeping in a volatile environment. The reader is taken through various stages of the drill beginning with the day the Major received intimation of an year-long duty in Africa. The hardest to believe as it turns out is the fact as the peacekeeper, the Major was not expected to carry a weapon!

As a Boston Globe reviewer remarked, the author balances the moments of terror with equal doses of humour, as the narrative moves with effortless ease from heartrending to heart warming experiences in a battle zone.
