Chinese authorities have rounded up more than a thousand people on the charge that they have threatened tthe country's security',  Hong Kong-based human rights group, Dui Hua Foundation says.

One of the arrested persons, Liu Xiaobo (54) is given an 11- year jail term. He invited the wrath by writing a petition seeking multi-party democracy.

More arrests and indictments for endangering state security have been carried out in China over the past two years than in the entire five-year period from 2003 to 2007, the Foundation said. It holds the view that these arrests reflect Beijing's desire to
keep control over Tibet and Xinjiang, where mass riots have occurred.
