Musharraf to launch political party on Oct 1

POREG VIEWS:Pervez Musharraf refuses to fade away from public scene, though he has become an Altaf Hussain by opting to operate out of London. There is another similarity between them. Both are Mohajirs in a broad sense. They were made for each other in a manner of speaking. It was the MQM chief who provided the political props to Musharraf who ruled the country for nine years first as the chief executive and later as a president elected in a rigged election.

What will be the future of Musharraf’s party is difficult to forecast. But one thing can be said with certainty. The former strongman is not going to return home neither immediately nor in foreseeable future.

The judiciary is waiting to haul him up for the humiliation he had heaped on Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The party of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is baying for his blood to settle old scores, which are indeed deep scars for the leader from Rewind.

The irony is Sharif is a by-product of Pakistan military’s hegemony, like the Chaudhry’s of Gujrat, who had created a Muslim League of their own, and ran it efficiently for Musharraf, till he became their albatross. .Musharraf, no longer, needs the Chaudhry’s. That is clear from his decision to name his new venture as All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).

It proves again beyond doubt that Muslim League is the political amoeba of Pakistan. Also that its shelf-life depends on the patronage from the Rawalpindi based General Headquarters of the army.

So, the ambitions of garrulous Musharraf for a new innings in Pakistan are hostage to the whims of his successor at GHQ, Gen Pervez Kayani, who is enjoying the spot light
