THE personal assistant of Nepal’s Prime Minister, Prachanda, was shot and wounded outside his apartment in Kathmandu and remained hospitalised on Tuesday, BBC reported
Shakti Bahadur Basnet , 39, was shot in the leg by a group of attackers as he got out of his car at his home on Monday evening.
He was rushed to a hospital and was still being treated, a police statement said. His injuries are not life-threatening. ‘He received bullet injuries on his right thigh,” Kathmandu police commissioner Ramesh Kumar Shrestha said.
Prachanda came to power at the head of United Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) after leading a 10-year-long guerilla war.
Maoist spokesman Dinanath Sharma told the Himalayan Times that “foreign elements” were to blame.
“This is the handiwork of elements opposed to change in the country and those hell-bent on disrupting the peace process,” Sharma said.
