RUSSIA/ CHINA
1. President Zardari has appreciated China’s concern for poor children in Pakistan. He lauded the China Foundation’s decision to double its aid amount for impoverished Pakistani children.  (Ibrat)

AFGHANISTAN/ UNITED STATES
1. Former ISI chief Hamid Gul has told Afghan TV that Pakistani and Afghan secret agencies should have close ties. He also said that India cannot become a strategic partner of Afghanistan. (Jinnah)

2. A white supremacist group has emerged from the American military and has purchased weapons of USD 87,000 and this development has shaken the American government. Retired army officials are part of this secret network which wants to kill President Obama and attack government institutions. Since 2010, rate of suicides has increased by 25% in US Army and 121 soldiers have committed suicide on returning home from Afghanistan.  (Al Qalam Weekly, 7-13 September)

3.US has handed over control of Bagram Jail to Afghan authorities and by the end of this month, 800 American troops will leave Afghanistan. Taliban have shot down a helicopter in Logar in which 8 Allied troops died. Taliban have also killed 33 Allied Force personnel in attacks across Afghanistan.  (Al Qalam Weekly, 7-13 September)

4. Nawa-i-Waqt editorial criticised that during US Senator Mike Gravel’s visit, Pakistan leadership did not press sufficiently for Dr Afia’s release. (Nawa-i-Waqt Edit)

INDIA
1. Nawa-i-Waqt’s editorial on Pakistan’s Prime Minister invitation to foreign investors says that India is inviting many Pakistani industries which were forced to shut down because of power crisis. Prime Minister Raja will do well to address the problem of domestic investors first before wooing foreign capital. (Nawa-i-Waqt Edit)

2. United Jihad Council Secretary General and Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen Amir Sheikh Jamil-ur-Rahman said that neglecting the Kashmir issue in the Indo-Pak talks was harmful and would not improve relations between the two nations. He said that the genocide of Kashmiris and talks could not go hand in hand and those who act like they want peace also sponsor state terrorism. He further said that India was suppressing Pakistan and if Pakistan was not in a better position, it should not do business over Kashmir. (Jang)

3. JI-Pakistan’s Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch has demanded that the federal government raise the issue of Indian water aggression at the international level. He said that the government’s criminal neglect of the issue has made India more daring and it is conspiring to dry up Pakistan by continuing water aggression and has built illegal dams on Rivers Chenab and Jhelum. TERRORISM/EXTREMISM
1. Sources have said that JuD will start a relief operation in rain affected areas in Sindh. (Ummat)

2. JI, Tehreek-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool, Sunni Ittehad, DPC, JuD and other religious organisations will protest today against the anti-Islam movie made in America. Ulema have termed the film as religious terrorism and demanded that the American ambassador should be sent back in protest. (Ausaf, Jinnah)

3. Anjuman Fidayan-e-Khatm-e-Nabuwat (Rawalpindi) has called a meeting to finalise its protest campaign  against the anti-Islam film. Chairman of Sunni Ulema Board, Allama Gufran Mahmood has condemned the film and said if such insults to Islam are not stopped, nobody can guarantee international peace. He said that the UN is ineffective on issues related to Muslims and hence   the OIC made active. He demanded that the government of Pakistan should immediately send back the American ambassador.(Ausaf)

POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS
1. 90% of the factories in Baldia Town are without fire fighting equipment. (Ummat)

2. Sources said that President Zardari is now using a Black Berry. (Jang)

3. President Zardari has entrusted former PM Gilani and Agha Siraj Durrani with the task of wooing PML-F’s Pir Pagara and ANP leaders. PML-F had taken an active part in the Sindh strike.Rehman Malik and Khurshid Shah have been asked to remain in touch with ANP leaders to woo them back into the alliance. (Ibrat)

ECONOMHY/ENERGY/WATER
1. Awami Awaz editorial on the recent Karachi factory fire says, according to independent observers militant groups in Karachi are in possession of chemicals stolen from 70,000 containers meant for NATO. These chemicals are said to have been used to set the factory on fire.  These types of chemicals are manufactured in the US. Therefore there is an urgent need to thoroughly probe all angles and find out who could be the beneficiary of the tragedy. (Awami Awaz Edit)

KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWAH (NWFP/FATA)
1. Ausaf welcomes the direction of Peshawar High Court that the post-mortem should be conducted in respect of all those who had died in the custody of security forces. The post-mortem will bring out the truth behind the deaths. After the Swat operation, security forces reportedly took into custody around 3000-4000 people whereas the list provided by security forces claims that only 1100 were arrested. (Ausaf Edit)

SINDH
1. For the first time in this history of Pakistan and Sindh, the Hur community has taken to streets to protest against the new municipality ordinance. Chief of the community Pir Pagara Syed Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi gave the call for protests, which is also a first. (Jang)

2. PTI Sindh vice president Shah Pervez Khan has resigned from his post and the basic membership of the party. He said that PTI believes in making claims but not in action. (Jang)

3. Khizer Hayat Mungero warns that if the controversial local bodies ordinance is ratified by the Sindh Assembly, there could be a civil disobedience movement in Sindh similar to the Movement for Restoration of Democracy. (Awami Awaz)

4. Awami Tehreek has given a call for mourning today across Sindh in memory of their activist who was killed yesterday. The party has also threatened sit-ins from September 20th at different places if the controversial ordinance is not withdrawn. (Ibrat)

BALOCHISTAN
5. Balochistan CM Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani said that it is not advisable to hold local body elections in the present situation. He asserted that the impression that only bullets and bombs speak in Balochistan was far from the reality; he invited those who spread such lies to come see the reality. (Daily Intekhab)

6. IG Police Balochistan Tariq Umar said that very soon all police stations would be connected through a computer network. (Daily Intekhab)

7. EDIT says that the entire nation was worried over the turmoil in Balochistan. Edit laments target killing of 10 poor labourers working on roads. (Ummat Edit)

POK/ G-B NEWS
1. Former AJK Premier Sardar Atiq Ahmad Khan said though Kashmiris don’t like Pakistan leadership they love Pakistan from the bottom of their hearts. (Daily Dharti)

2.  Kashmiri nationalist parties have recorded strong objections over the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly passing a resolution under which GB would become a province of Pakistan. Nationalist leaders like Arif Shahid, Rauf Kashmiri, Liaqat Hayat, Muhammad Sagheer Khan and others vowed to start a movement against the resolution.  But GB Chief Minister Mehdi Shah said that a constitutional province was the right of the people of GB and the UN resolutions had no credibility as it was not a solution to the Kashmir problem. He added that ‘Kashmir banega Pakistan’ was a common slogan of everyone. (Daily Dharti)

2. Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhary said that PPP wanted to make AJK independent economically. (Daily Dharti)

3. Senior AJK Minister Chaudhary Muhammad Yaseen said that development of the state was the motto of the government and the freedom of Kashmir was a part of their faith. He said that the AJK government wanted fresh relations with India on an equal basis. (Daily Dharti)   
                
4. AJK President Sardar Yaqoob Khan said that the President Zardari had assured him that every help would be provided for the reconstruction and development of AJK. (Daily Dharti, Jang)

5. International Human Rights Organization (AJK) Central President Nadim Ishaq said that there had been open violation of human rights in AJK and departments like Education, Health, and Employment were under the influence of certain families. He added that road development had been given over to big contractors. Ishaq requested the IHRO to send their auditors to AJK. (Daily Dharti)

6. Daily Dharti’s editorial on G-B assembly resolution says that PPP, PML-N, PML-Q and MQM  supported the resolution whereas only two votes of JUI went against it. Edit says that basically, Gilgit Baltistan was a part of Kashmir and hence the strong reactions expressed by the nationalist parties were quite justifiable. Edit states that this resolution was tabled in the GB Assembly when Indo-Pak foreign level talks concluded without any discussion over the Kashmir problem. Edit says that the federal government should respect the interests of Kashmiris before taking any decision in this regard as anything against the aspirations of Kashmiris would create lots of problems. Edit advises the nationalist parties in AJK including the government to work out its role in for which Kashmiris had given undying sacrifices. (Daily Dharti Edit)
