‘Islam Zindabad Conference’ is planned for October 14. To be held in Sukkur, it is a venture of JUI and its proponent, MaulanaFazlur Rehman expects the event to change the course of politics in Pakistan, says Ausaf.

INDIA
1.Ibn-e-Shamsi in his column writes that spreading terrorism all over Pakistan is an international conspiracy against Pakistan. Indian, USA, Israel and Afghanistan’s governments and secret agencies are conspiring to wipe out Pakistan’s existence. (Baad-e-Shimal)

2.Awami Awaz’s editorial on the continuing sectarian violence in Quetta says ever since India has opened about one and a half dozen consulates in Afghanistan, militancy has shot up in Pakistan. Observers are of the view that India is giving weapons and training to militants through its consulates. Instances targeting bus passengers travelling to Iran for religious reasons are aimed at ruining Iran-Pakistan relations. Sadly the government has failed to control sectarianism. 3. Editorial in the Al Qalam Weekly on Indo-Pak dialogue and the visit of a delegation of Pakistan lawmakers to India says if India continued its claims over Kashmir as its inseparable part, how could the issue be resolved?   Kashmiris had sacrificed a lot for accession to Pakistan. And without resolution of the Kashmir issue, there could be no peace between the two countries. Edit says it was shameful that the parliamentary delegation to India did not discuss important issues like Kashmir, water and Siachen. (Al Qalam Weekly Edit, 31 August-6 September)

TERRORISM/EXTREMISM
1. Sunni Tehreek has announced that it will launch a movement against terrorism from 4 September to 28 October. (Ausaf, 3 September)   

POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS
1. In view of approaching elections it seems that 150000 posts that are vacant will be filled up by the federal government on political considerations. PPP members and allies will be given quotas and Khursheed Shah would be made chief of the committee which will look into recruitment motivated by politics. On the other hand, the bureaucracy has threatened that if the government fills up vacancies through the placement bureau, it will move the court. (Ausaf, 3 September)

2.  JUI Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that anti-Islam laws will not be allowed to be passed by the parliament. He said America wants to enforce its agenda but that won’t take place. He added that the ‘Islam Zindabad Conference’ which will take place in Sukkur on 14 October will change the course of politics. (Ausaf, 3 September)

3. A commission has been formed headed by Justice Javid Iqbal for an inquiry into the missing people cases; the commission will tour Sindh and Balochistan in September and October   (Urdupoint)

4. Shar tribe’s Sardar, Akbar Khan Shar has announced that he will join PML-N along with his family members, followers and friends. (Nawa-i-Waqt)

5. Idris Rajput says  that due to political and administrative obstacles created by corruption, people in tail end areas of areas are not receiving water. (Kawish)

6. Jang editorially welcomed President Asif Ali Zardari’s plan to hold local bodies elections before the general election. For a long time all the four provinces were struggling without a local government system which is an effective tool to deal with the problems at the lower levels. The daily asked the President to take the imitative to create political consensus for peace in Karachi which is hit by targetted killings. (Jang Edit)

7. Nawa-i-Waqt’s edit has asked PML –N chief to stop demanding review of policy on war against terrorism. Instead he should suggest an alternative policy and thus gain people’s confidence. (Nawa-i-Waqt Edit)

8. Nawa-i-Waqt also has welcomed the plan to hold elections to the local bodies and said under no circumstances, general election should be postponed. (Nawa-i-Waqt Edit)

KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWAH (NWFP/FATA)
1. As of today operations against militants in Bara in Khyber Agency is three years old. Long curfews and the ops as such have deeply affected the education and economy.  During the 3 year long operation, 450 militants have been killed and 51,000 families have migrated whereas 40 schools had been destroyed. 2. Daily Hazara News has editorially criticised the non-inclusion of demand for Hazara Province in the terms of reference of Presidential commission on new provinces. (Daily Hazara News Edit)

SINDH
1. Ausaf has editorially examined the statements of the Interior Minister Rehman Malik that there is a threat of terror attacks on political and religious organizations and weapon licenses will be provided for the security of political and religious offices. The daily ticks of the ministerial plan.   Karachi does not need any more licenses for. The need of the hour is making Karachi weapons free. (Ausaf Edit, 3 Sept)

BALOCHISTAN
1. Ausaf has voiced concern over   target killings in Quetta and said the government must come to grips with the situation in Balochistan. Ignoring it would be dangerous.  The administration will have to identify forces and factors which were forcing Muslims to kill one another. (Ausaf Edit, 3 September)

POK/ G-B NEWS
1.PTI Chief Imran Khan said that sectarian violence in Gilgit-Baltistan was a result of an international conspiracy against Muslims that’s been going on in Iraq, Syria, Rome and Bahrain. (Jang)

2. Sources have said that more than 15,000 residents of London have signed a memorandum in the British Parliament calling for a dialogue over the Kashmir dispute. The signature campaign was started a month ago by the Kashmir Center London. (Jang)   

3. Deputy Commissioner of Gilgit Baltistan Raqim Tariq said that there was threat of terrorism in GB and the government was alert to counter unwanted incidents. He claimed that even in the past there have been threats of terrorism but security forces had foiled it. Tariq claimed that security has been tightened on arrival and departure routes in GB with adequate police deployment. He added that all government offices will open up from today and action will be taken against the absentee staff. (Ausaf)

4. PML-N Gilgit Baltistan has formed a committee organise a rousing reception to Nawaz Sharif who is coming to GB. (Ausaf, 3 September)

5. Mirza Hussain President of PML-Q Gilgit Baltistan has demanded presidential rule in GB saying that   CM Mehdi Shah has failed to establish peace. He offered support if there is a no-confidence motion in the G-B assembly. (Baad-e-Shimal, Ausaf, 3 September)

6. Senior minister Mohammad Jafar has rejected the talk of President’s rule in GB. He said that the law and order trouble is not a recent origin issue. It has been there for decades. The government needs public cooperation to address the problem. (Baad-e-Shimal, Ausaf, 3 September)

7. Efforts are on to remove staff shortage in Khaplu College. The Education Secretary and DDO Education have been informed. (Baad-e-Shimal)

8. Security has been beefed up on entry routes to Ghizer and Gilgit in view of terrorism threat. (Baad-e-Shimal)

9. Baad-e-Shimal editorially noted that GB Information Minister Sr. Ali Sher has rejected the talk of shifting GB’s capital from Gilgit as no more than a rumour. The daily said it is unfortunate such rumours are being spread when the law and order situation is causing concern. (Baad-e-Shimal Edit)

10. Baad-e-Shimal agrees with PTI leader Imran Khan that federal Interior Minister instead of alleging external hand in GB situation should arrest elements fomenting trouble. Otherwise the government should go. (Baad-e-Shimal Edit)

11. Daily Dharti says in an editorial that Prime Minister Ashraf, who is also the Chairman of the AJK Kashmir Council, had sent another summary to the AJK President asking him to amend the Accountability Bureau Act 2008 in order to give immunity to the Kashmir Council. Along with the summary, the Law Ministry sent a letter that even if the AJK President did not act accordingly, the said amendment would take effect and no department of the AJK government would have a right to impeach the Kashmir Council. The edit points out that Kashmir Council got its funds from the taxes levied on people in AJK and hence the AJK government should take up this matter with Islamabad; The daily added that AJK government would get the support of groups that have been working on various forums to limit the rights of the Kashmir Council.
