Sri Lanka: TNA opts for Gandhian ways
Sri Lanka’s main Tamil party, the Tamil National Alliance, (TNA), has decided to adopt Gandhian ways to achieve greater autonomy for the Tamil speaking areas in the East and North of the island nation.
TNA, known as the proxies of Tamil Tigers, LTTE, who were vanquished in the Wanni War last year, also renounced its demand for Eelam, homeland for the Tamils of Sri Lanka, manifesto of the party released for the forthcoming Parliament election said.
If the Sri Lankan state continues its present style of governance without due regard to the rights of the Tamil-speaking peoples, the TNA will launch a peaceful, non-violent campaign of civil disobedience on the Gandhian model, the manifesto said.
