Low Turn Out in SL Election
Low turn out marked the polling in the Parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka on Thursday. The results are unlikely to hold any surprises though.
An estimated 50-55 per cent of14 million voters exercised their franchise in the one-day poll held on the basis of proportional representaion system. Jaffna recorded the lowest turn out of around five percent.
Sporadic violence was reported from across the island; Poll mointors said there were several reports of intimidation of voters and polling agents.
