Policy Research Group, POREG for short, brings together people from diverse backgrounds and fields to look at today and tomorrow of Asia and to offer an Asian perspective. Not because there is a dearth of analytical information. Not because Asia is the happening region in a globalised village. But because of a yawning urge to hold the mirror slightly differently, a little away from the conventional, to get an insight that often gets lost in the mundane pursuit of the most obvious.
Expectedly, POREG is dominated by a band of journalists, whose craving is to offer some thing new every day to the reader by going behind the news and by taking a look at the surroundings and then weave a comprehensive and insightful perspective that is welcome both to the egghead and the layman.
Yet, the core of POREG is the conventional sleuth, who believes in hard, field based investigation to get at the root of a cause and ,who loathes the seminar circuit. Now that they are in their salad days, these ace investigators, who have carved out a niche for themselves over the years, bring forth their expertise to bear on the unfolding events.
Tapping their old friends and colleagues with an IOY, these experts, some of whom still like to shun limelight and, therefore, prefer a pseudonym, offer a refreshing comment absolutely uninfluenced by the official line of their countries in South Asia, East Asia, South East Asia, Central Asia, West Asia and Africa. These countries are the main focus of the POREG to offer its views and assessments and prognosis to the regular visitor, occasional browser (of the site) and all those interested in the unfolding security scene what with terrorists of different hues around.
POREG –member/ associate academics are still active in their chosen fields. They are very much part of the seminar circuit. They are among the most sought after speakers at round tables here in Asia and in the land of El’ Dorado. They bring their insights, local flavour and what not in the only way they alone can – objectively, sincerely, honestly and above all convincingly.
All these POREG masters of whatever they survey every day have a Coordinator and Chief Editor in Malladi Rama Rao, who brings to POREG 40-years of experience as a journalist, broadcaster, political commentator, economist and security analyst.
