Situation in Gilgit and Balochistan is same, according to Federal Minister Ayatollah Durrani.. Ummat reports that the intelligence agencies are blaming India and the US for the sectarian violence in Gilgit-Baltistan and Hazara belt. Musharraf will come back to Pakistan once the army backed caretaker government takes office to conduct next general election, say Kawish.

AFGHANISTAN
 Pakistan Senate Internal Committee Chairman Talha Mehmood has said that over 5 lakh Afghan nationals have obtained forged Pakistani Ids and that they were using these to apply for bank accounts and passports. Mehmood said that this was one of the reasons why terrorism was not being controlled. (Jang)

Daily Intekhab editorial discusses increasing attacks on allied forces by Afghan Army personnel in Afghanistan. It says that the Afghan community had completely rejected American tyranny and the current unrest in Afghanistan was not only due to Taliban or religious fanaticism, but it was concern for the entire Afghan community. Edit says that the US had failed to take the local public along, and that if this situation continued, the US would lose the support it had been getting for the last 60 years. Edit criticizes the US for asking Pakistan to start an operation against the Haqqani Network and for trying to start a dialogue with them at the same time. Edit alleges that for this reason, the US was keeping Pakistan away from getting in touch with Afghan Taliban or Mullah Omar. It says that the US could even offer the Haqqani Network areas in which it could establish its government. Edit says according to some analysts, increased drone attacks in Pakistan were a part of the same strategy. Edit writes that America’s actions were a clear sign of its vagueness. It says that American authorities should withdraw all its forces and stop with its plans to establish US supremacy across the world. UNITED STATES/ INDIA
Senate Standing Committee on Interior Affairs has sought details about migration of Hindu Sindhis It expressed concern over increasing incidents of abduction and has sought a report from provincial IGs. The Interior Ministry has informed the Committee that crimes could not be stopped until access to mobile data could be obtained. The Interior Ministry has informed that 22,000 visas had been issued to Indians over the last 3 years and claimed that in the next session, details will be provided of a CIA agent who had a Pakistani ID card. Intelligence agencies have named India and the US as being responsible for the sectarian violence in Gilgit-Baltistan and Hazara. India was taking special interest in this region due the Bhasha Dam expressway, the Dry Port for China at Hassan Abdal and the strategic importance of Karakoram Highway. Sources said they had concrete evidence that some banned outfits and communal groups were being funded from foreign nations. (Ummat)

Former JI leader Qazi Hussain Ahmad has held the US and India responsible for the Kamra airbase attack. He said that India and the US wanted to end Pakistani security organizations. He also alleged that India was supplying weapons to terrorists and separatist organizations. (Jinnah)

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) used former cricketer Zulqarnain Haider of Pakistan to sideline the Akmal Brothers of the Pakistani cricket team. Indian media paid huge money to Zulqarnain Haider to speak out against Akmal brothers. PCB had taken assistance from intelligence agencies to control Haider from speaking against the Pakistani cricket team. (Ummat)

Sources said that Pakistan has sent a bill of USD 2 billion to the US for payment towards expenses that occurred during the war on terror and the Coalition Support Fund. (Jang)

TTP is planning to attack the Faisalabad jail to free their companions. In an alert the IG Police and IG jails have been warned that TTP’s Tariq Afridi group may abduct the Jail Superintendent in order to free their leaders. However, IG Jail Affairs Punjab Mian Farooq Nazeer has claimed that they had effective security to counter a possible TTP strike. During a checking of the jail, 2000 mobile phones had been recovered and 65 personnel had been suspended for their negligence. At present, Punjab jails hold more than 300 terrorists. (Urdupoint)

Ulema of various sects have said on the ‘Ausaf platform’ that there was a conspiracy behind incidents of the desecration of Holy Quran and blasphemy. They warned that if the government comes under any pressure regarding the Rimsha blasphemy case, they will start a movement against it. (Ausaf)   

POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the headquarters of armed forces were insecure. He said that they shouldn’t be so weak that militants could attack military installations.  (Urdupoint)

Participating in a programme on Geo News, AML Chief Sheikh Rashid said that PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif should learn politics from President Zardari who used veterans like Babar Aiwan and Aitzaz Ahsan as tissue papers and now it was the turn of Farooq Naek. He said that if Musharraf wanted to come back to Pakistan and enter politics, he should first complete a term in the jail. He said that Pakistan was going through the worst phase of its history as more than 2 million people were jobless and every Pakistan child was in debt of Rs.62, 000.  (Jang)

Musharraf has formally decided to contest NA polls from NA 139 constituency in Kasuri. Following this announcement, activists of All Pakistan Muslim League have started preparing for elections. Advocate Rashid Ahmad, Kasuri district President for All Pakistan Muslim League said that Musharraf will be seen amongst Pakistanis as soon as the caretaker government takes charge. (Kawish)

Senate Standing Committee on Interior Affairs was told that NADRA had issued 5 lakh identity cards to Afghan refugees. The committee directed the Interior Ministry to stop the use of unverified SIM cards for checking terror bids, and crimes such as abductions for ransom amounts. Secretary of Interior Affairs Khwaja Sadiq Akbar informed the committee that several departments were working under the Interior Ministry including the Air Wing which had 14 helicopters; he informed that these helicopters have been earmarked for jobs like providing provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan with their operational requirements. The committee has called for fight records for three months to verify the claim. (Ibrat)

3 former general managers of Pakistan Railways have admitted to being involved in corruption in the purchase of engine spare parts from China. NAB has put them under arrest. (Ummat)

Daily Pak in its editorial on PM Ashraf appearing before the SC,  says there was speculation in some circles that the government would  seek a third option but it was not clear what this third option is. Some are of the opinion that PPP was just seeking time to delay the case until the elections; other analysts were of the view that PPP was firm on not writing to Swiss authorities. (Daily Pak Edit)

Ummat in its editorial has voiced concern over turmoil in Karachi and other parts of the country and says that the situation should be brought under control as general elections are approaching. Daily Hazara News says many countries have cancelled their export orders for wheat in view of worldwide shortfall in wheat production. However, Pakistan Flour Mills Association has alleged that traders were earning huge profit by exporting wheat after buying the same from open market. They claimed that wheat was being sent to Afghanistan openly with permission from the Afghan government. The daily says that Pakistan’s wheat production this year is enough for domestic consumption. BALOCHISTAN
Balochistan CM Nawab Aslam Raeesani has criticised formation of new provinces as insensible. He said that new provinces would increase safety and security problems and could also be dangerous for national integrity. He added that new provinces were not a solution to the problems of people; instead, they should be given employment and basic amenities. Raeesani asserted that Pakistan should keep good relations with neighbouring countries but no one should interfere in each others’ internal matters. (Daily Intekhab)

IG FC has appealed to frustrated Baloch nationalist leaders to cast off their weapons and assist the administration in bringing peace to Balochistan. (Daily Intekhab)

KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWAH (NWFP/FATA)
North Waziristan Mehsood tribal leaders have opposed the planned military ops in their area, and demanded that the issue could be resolved via talks.  Malik Mohammad Hashim Mehsood, Malik Janan Khan Mehsood and others told a jirga that grand jirga that it would be difficult for the government to give shelter to migrants of North Waziristan. They said that the operation will not be good for the government. (Jinnah)

American radio channels were misleading the youth in KP by airing programmes on family system, blasphemy laws, and intermingling of boys and girls. Crores are being spent on advertisements in an apparent bid to reduce anti-American sentiments in KP. (Ummat)

PUNJAB
CM Shahbaz Sharif said that the Punjab government had decided to recruit 4000 retired army personnel on a contract basis in order to safeguard the province against street crimes. The new recruits will work alongside the police. (Ausaf, Kawish)

Manzoor Wasan, Deputy Secretary of PPP (Sindh) called on the President and PM who advised him to reactivate PPP in Sindh and also step up efforts to contact PPP dissidents. (Kawish)

Judicial proceedings could not take place in Karachi yesterday as there had been threats to blow up Karachi city courts. Despite security arrangements, people didn’t turn up for their cases in the courts. The Karachi Bar Association chief said that they were not satisfied with the security arrangements and threatened to protest in case the arrangements were not completed by Monday. (Ibrat)

A Hindu girl, Sunita, daughter of Punhoo Maheshwari, was abducted from Dabeji. Family members have lodged a case against six persons. Hindu leaders from the area have asked for intervention of Hyderabad DIG and by Thatta police officials.(Ibrat)

Following violent clashes between the Nareja and Kalhoro tribes that resulted in the loss of 7 lives, the Police has launched an operation in the interiors or the Kherpur district. (Ibrat)

A UN official has refused to take part in the polio campaign in Karachi. Police officials working under UNICEF have also threatened that they will not work under the Karachi district administration due to delay in investigations into attacks on officials. (Kawish, 28 August)

In his article on migration of Hindus, Harish Chandra Meghwar writes that Hindus in Sindh were being forced to migrate and that Sindh seems to reliving partition times. Conditions are being created which are forcing Hindus to leave; he claims that killings of doctors at Chak in Shikarpur or abduction and forced marriages of Hindu girls were all part of a conspiracy to force Hindus out of Sindh. Meghwar questions why Rahman Malik has suddenly started seeing a conspiracy behind these migrations when he was silent during the recent furore of abductions of Hindu girls Rinkle Kumari, Lata and Asha? Meghwar appreciates President Zardari setting up a committee to look into the problems of Hindus but says no good has ever come out of any such probe body. He says that a party that could not get justice for itself for the assassination of its own leader, could not be expected to be of help to others. He appreciates the role of electronic and print media in highlighting the plight of Hindus; he comments that even the Urdu media had started highlighting these issues. He laments that no serious effort was being made to redress the grievances of Hindus. (Ibrat)

In Ibrat, Harish Chandra Meghwar says it is time the youth questioned how the mohajirs were treating Sindhis. He comments that Karachi has become a no-go area for Sindhis and that this is spreading Sukkur, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and other places. (Ibrat)

No one in the government has taken notice of killings in Karachi; On Monday alone, 16 people were killed in Karachi and these killings have gone unnoticed as no arrest has been made yet. Addressing a protest rally at the Skardu Airport, federal Minister Ayatullah Durrani said that his hands were tired, and that he could not do anything. He said that the situation in Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan is similar. He added that such a situation had been created deliberately to instigate people to join separatist movements.
