Police station near Peshawar attacked, 3 died, 26 injured

A suicide car bomber attacked a police station at Karak, 150 km south-west of Peshawar on Saturday, Feb 27, killing at least five persons, three of them police men.  At least 26 people, 21 of them policemen, were  injured.

Karak lies between violence hit areas of Lakki Marwat and Kohat; this was the first suicide attack in the area. It appears to be a retaliation for army action in the nearby garrison town of Kohat on Friday in which 17 militants were killed.

The explosion took place as an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the Karak police station, police officials said. No one claimed responsibility.

“The attacker detonated his pick-up van at the gate of the main police station in Karak,” local police chief Sajid Mohmand said.

Police officials said the bombing badly damaged the building while two police vehicles were also damaged. The blast also toppled a mosque next to the police station.

Meanwhile, another terror bid has been foiled by the Peshawar police by arresting a suicide bomber trying to enter Matni police station.
