China unlikely to engage in real confrontation says India’s NSA Menon, reports Economic Times

POREG VIEW: In the course of his address to the conference of state police chiefs in New Delhi, Shiv Shankar Menon, a former Indian envoy to Beijing, makes out the case that that China will not go beyond its regular pinpricks. He rests the case on China’s single-minded pursuit of turning into an economic superpower.  If this reading is correct, then Delhi must remain on guard against Beijing. India is the only Asian power that can stand up to and challenge the Chinese, not today or tomorrow but one day in the near future. And China will not like to countenance the challenge in any manner. Safety net for India will be undiluted focus on economic growth and internal stability, which alone keep the adversaries at bay.
