2. Rawal requests Maoists to handover Kham to police
KANTIPUR REPORT
Kathmandu, July 15: Minister for Home Affairs Bhim Rawal on Thursday requested the UCPN (Maoist) to handover its central committee member and Division Commander of its People’s Liberation of Army Kali Bahadur Kham, to the police.

Home Minister Rawal reached Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in Nayabazar this morning and made such request to the Maoists leadership.

In response, Dahal said Kham is out of reach from the party and assured to assist if he comes in contact.

Sources, however, claimed that Kham operated the trafficking ring while remaining in touch with the top brass of the Maoist.

Police suspect that his gang has traded yarchagumba worth millions through illegal routes. Kham’s gang used to rob the medicinal herb from villagers, make it legal with the help of fake government stamps and sell it in the black market.

Kham has also been accused of involvement in murdering businessman Ram Hari Shrestha.

Sources claim he is still in the Capital. “A manhunt is on,” said SP Ramesh Kharel, in charge of the Metropolitan Police Range Hanumandhoka. If held, Kham would be booked on four different charges — robbery, illegal trading of medicinal herbs, possession of arms and ammunition and forgery of government stamps and documents.  http://www.ekantipur.com/2010/07/15/top-story/rawal-requests-maoists-to-handover-kham-to-police/318508/
