Nasim’s jail sentence scrapped: Star Online Report

The High Court on Thursday in a verdict scrapped the 13-year jail sentence of former home minister and Awami League leader Mohammad Nasim in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

The HC bench of Justice Syed Mohammad Dastagir Husain and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque passed the verdict after granting an appeal filed by Nasim against the special court judgment.

On October 8, 2007 the Special Judge’s Court-1 set up on the Sangsad Bhaban complex sentenced Mohammad Nasim to 13 years’ imprisonment in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The anti-graft body on March 13, 2007 filed the case against him on charge of amassing wealth illegally and concealing the information about it to the ACC. http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/latest_news.php?nid=25030

 

2. Jamaat trio denied bail

Dhaka: A Dhaka court yesterday rejected bail petitions of detained Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, its Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojahid and its Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee in five criminal cases filed with different police stations.

Of the cases, three were filed with Paltan, one with Uttara and the other one with Ramna police stations on February 12 and 17, June 26 and 27 on charges of preventing police from discharging their duties, for killing a passenger and on sedition charge.

Judge (In-charge) Mohammad Ismail Hossain of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court passed the order after their lawyers submitted separate petitions seeking bails against the rejection orders of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=148542
