A section of military leadership is against India being granted MFN status, says Khabrain in what certainly is the first formal confirmation of reports in circulation over differences between civilian and military leadership on the MFN issue. Jamaat-ud-Dawa has announced plans to hold protests across the country against the government decision. Jang talks about Army’s involvement in the Rs.10 billion Cattle Bazaar scandal in Karachi. NUCLEAR
1. Khabrain commenting on ‘The Atlantic’ report about Pakistan’s nuclear weapons’ says Pakistanis should make the US understand that Pakistan’s nuclear assets were in safe hands and that Pakistan was capable of taking care of them. It notes Indian accusations that Pakistan is sheltering terrorists and says that it is a shame that India is defaming Pakistan at a time when Pakistan is ready to grant it MFN status. This would have a negative impact on Indo-Pak relationship. (Khabrain Edit)

2. Ummat edit talks about IAEA’s report on Iran and says that Iran would now need support from Islamic nations as Israel, America and India would create a reason for attacking Iran on the basis of the IAEA report. (Ummat Edit)

INDIA-MFN
1. At a high-level military leadership meeting, some officers voiced their reservations against India being granted MFN status. These officers want pressure tactics, similar to what India uses, applied on India; they also want Pakistan to raise protest against opening of 15-20 Indian consulates in Afghanistan. (Khabrain)

2. India has planned a new conspiracy against Pakistan to target the interiors of Sindh. Hundreds of Indian agents have become active in Sindh interiors; they were sending Hindus in Sindh to India. Once these Hindus reach India, they seek political asylum as per the conspiracy. Secret agencies in a report to the government said that this conspiracy began 2 years ago. As part of this conspiracy, Indian agents who operate in Sindh, arranged for kidnappings or killings of Hindus, forcing them to leave Sindh. Some Sikh leaders are also involved in providing safe channels to Hindus enroute to India. Indian agents have also entered Sindh interiors on passports of Hindus who have left for India. 3. JI chief Syed Munawar Hassan said that people will have to come out on the streets against the US and its supporters; he said that a very negative message had been delivered to Kashmiris by giving the MFN status to India. (Jasarat)

4. Jang editorial on Saarc summit says Pakistan has always suggested ways to make this organization as productive as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization or the European Union. SAARC is a great platform for regional nations to put in united effort for improvement in all sectors; this time, Pakistan has given MFN status to India which would make things a lot easier. It says that people of both nations want their leaders to seriously build an atmosphere of peace and harmony which is essential for development and social reforms. (Jang Edit)

DEFENCE
1. Army is involved in Rs. 10 billion scandal in Cattle Bazaar in Karachi. Television programme host Kamran Khan said that the city district government was in charge of the Health Certificate System of Cattle Bazaar but only a few officials were dismissed after the scandal was revealed. Khan said that the market was under MQM hegemony and that the whole system had been under Army’s control for many years. ISPR has ordered a probe but the investigators have not yet given any report. TERRORISM & EXTREMISM
1. Armed men belonging to a Madrassa captured 60 hides by force in Karachi; 6 people were injured in incidents of firing over hide-snatching in Karachi. (Jasarat)

2. Naved Masood Hashmi advocates Jihad and the sacrificing of animals on occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. He calls out to readers to donate hides of sacrificed animals to Al Rehmat Trust as the trust provides financial help to families of martyrs, Mujahedeen and caters to the needs of the Mujahedeen with the help of money obtained by selling of hides. 3. Ausaf edit commenting on the Eid address of Imam of Mecca, who said that Muslims were being killed in Afghanistan, Libya, Palestine and Kashmir, says peace will not be achieved in the world till Muslim countries do not unite to form a bloc. (Edit Ausaf 9 Nov)
A large section of JuD leadership spent time on occasion of Eid-ul-Azha with the flood-affected people. They distributed sacrificial offering (Qurbani meat) worth crores of rupees. JuD chief Hafiz Saeed said in his Eid address in Lahore that asked the Muslim community to use Quranic education at home. (Nawa-i-Waqt, Daily Dharti, Daily Pak, Jinnah)

POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS
1. Masood Sharif Khatak, former chief of IB, has decided to join PTI. Imran Khan and Masood Khatak will jointly address a press conference tomorrow where Khatak will announce his decision. (Kawish)

2. According to Imran Khan, Allama Iqbal’s grandson Walid has announced his joining PTI; several heavyweights would also be joining PTI before Moharram. PTI has breached PML-N and PPP vote banks. (Khabrain, Jinnah, Daily Pak)

3. Punjab governor Sardar Latif Khosa said that Imran Khan had eradicated PML-N by holding a rally in Lahore. (Khabrain)

4. Former Sindh Interior Minister, Zulfikar Mirza, says he will go to UK to hand over evidence against Altaf Hussain to the Scotland Yard authorities on November 14th. He also said he would attend programmes to be organized by Pakistani students at Manchester and Birmingham. (Kawish)

5. Speaking against Zulfikar Mirza, Sindh Interior Minister Manzoor Wasan accused him of frequently resorting to kidnappings for ransom and extortions. (Ibrat, Jasarat)

6. In his column, Arif Bahar writes that people are against corruption and this time, not only activists and members of Tahreek-e-Insaf but even common people were looking up to Imran Khan as an alternate force against corruption. Bahar writes that it is possible for Imran Khan to emerge as a formidable political front and upset the 2 major parties. A change may takes place in Pakistan’s politics if Imran Khan smartly plays all his cards. (Jasarat)

7. In his article, Ghulam Rasool Soomro talks about the deep-rooted corruption in Pakistan and says that the guilty are never punished. He says that according to one survey, politicians and Army generals had amassed huge funds in Swiss banks; he comments that even if a quarter of this amount comes back to Pakistan, it would be enough to pay off the country’s foreign debts. He says that it is because of corruption that the Pakistani population lives a life full of miseries; he ends by saying that until the administrative, judicial and educational bodies don’t discharge their duties with all sincerity, the situation will not improve. BALOCHISTAN
1. Federal government is working to bring Baloch nationalist leaders to the negotiating table. An important member of the government has started meetings with Sardar Ataullah Mengal and other Baloch leaders. Talks are also under way with Brahamdagh Bugti and contacts have also been established with the sons of Nawab Khair Bux Murree. The government is planning to organize a conference of Baloch leaders in the in third week of November. (Nawa-i-Waqt)

2. Federal Interior Minister Rahman Malik has also invited disgruntled Baloch leaders to give up their weapons and join the mainstream. He denied reports that PML-N was a ‘friendly opposition party’. (Ibrat)

PUNJAB
1. Khabrain has welcomed PM Gilani’s assurance of introducing a resolution in the Punjab Assembly for the division of the province into two; it says that this should be done as quickly as possible since the people of south Punjab are feeling deprived and are unable to play a role in national development. SINDH
1. Federal Interior Minister Rahman Malik has claimed that peace has been restored in Karachi. (Ibrat)

2. Sindh government has finally announced that it is reviving the commissioner system in 5 districts including Maleer. Hyderabad has not been returned to its pre-split status. Following this notification, the Karachi metropolitan area; 5 divisions; 8 municipal corporations of Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad; 5 district corporations of Karachi; over 30 municipal committees and more than 100 town committees have been revived. 3. Hamid Abroo in Ibrat says the recent killings of Hindu doctors in Sindh show that situation in North Sindh is worse than the situation in Karachi. He says that Sindhi businessmen, Hindus as well as Muslims, have felt unsafe in North Sindh. Abroo says that minorities are the worst sufferers in Sindh. He says that the people should stop electing parties that use the ‘Sindh card’ for political gains. (Ibrat)

ECONOMY
1. Talks between IMF and Pakistan have started in Dubai and they will continue for the next eight days. (Jasarat)

2. Ausaf writes that the government has collapsed economically and is meeting its expenses by increasing costs of electricity and gas. Edit says that the government has also been charging people for line losses and electricity theft. (Ausaf Edit, 9 November)

POK NEWS/KASHMIR
1. Daily Dharti is angry at the humiliation heaped on patients in the army controlled Rawalkot’s Sheikh Zaid Hospital.  UAE constructed the hospital with latest equipment in 2005, but today it is in a pathetic condition and urges the government to intervene to set right things. (Daily Dharti Edit)
