RUSSIA
1. Dr. Abdul Majeed Chandiyo says Russian President’s Pakistan visit was just 2 weeks away; the Russian President would be accompanied by the heads of Tajikistan and Afghanistan.  Besides the US and EU, the countries in the region were looking forward to this visit, despite the fact that Russia is no longer the superpower it used to be. Chandiyo says Russia continues to be militarily strong and is replete with rich natural resources. He says that Putin, who had stood alongside the US in its decision to attack Afghanistan right after 9/11, is keen on the ouster of the US from Afghanistan now. He says Pakistan is also equally keen on US’s ouster from the region. Chandiyo says that the US-Pak relations were not at their best. He says that Russia has started visiting regional nations as soon as the US made an announcement to pull out from Afghanistan by 2014. Chandiyo claims that Putin’s visit to Pakistan is also a part of his ‘post US withdrawal from Afghanistan’ plan. He says it is time both countries sink their differences and come closer. (Kawish)
