TTP spreading in S Punjab, LeJ sets up two groups to target Shias & Police

Pakistan Taliban has stepped up its activities in Punjab particularly in the south of the province r in collaboration with Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM).

TTP commanders, during their visits besides collecting funds are also recruiting youth from various seminaries, local TV channels Aajkal, Express News and Geo TV reported on May 17 quoting the police and intelligence agencies.

In fact, an FIR registered at the Jhang City Police Station charges former Amir of JeM Jhang Dr. Imran with running TTP’s network in South Punjab.  He  had played host to Taliban commander Qari Matiullah and other top leaders.

Matiullah, who also goes around as Abdus Samad carries a price of Rs.10 million as head money.   Police claimed that Taliban commanders frequently visit Jhang and other areas of South Punjab.

Ex-gunmen of Osama Bin Laden is working as commander of TTP in Toba Tek Singh district. He reportedly plays a vital role in the proliferation of Taliban in South Punjab.  

Adding concern to the authorities and local political formations, South Punjab Clerics have termed the war against the government and army as legitimate. Meeting at a seminary in Jhang on the May Day, the clerics called for the revival of the sprit of 1985.  

Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) has floated two new outfits, ‘Jhangvi Fidayeen Force’ and ‘Sunni Fidayeen Force’ to target Shiite leaders and police in Punjab and Sindh provinces.
