US tells Zardari to work with Nawaz

The United States wants President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to work together to check galloping Talibanisation of Pakistan, a media report from Washington says.

Zardari, who arrived on Monday from London for a summit with Afghan President Karzai and President Obama (on Wednesday) would be, conveyed the new American thinking. While details are not forthcoming from either side, it is understood that Washington expects Zardari and Nawaz to enter into a power sharing deal primarily to send the message that the civilian government is strong and that it is capable of standing up to the challenges.

US is incresingly worried about the unpopularity of Zardari regime.During his week long visit to the US, Zardari will hold a series of meetings with the American leadership.  Special Envoy and Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have already spoken with Nawaz Sharif by telephone as a part of the new plan of courting Nawaz Sharif whose stock has gone up after he forced Zardari government to yield to his demands particularly the reinstatement of sacked chief justice Iftthikar Chaudhary.
