Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (60) started his second innings as Indonesia’s President on Wednesday Oct 21.
At the swearing in ceremony at the national assembly in Jakarta, Yudhoyono swore on the Koran to adhere to the constitution as ‘faithfully as possible’, and committed himself ‘to the country and the people’.
Banking on his record in office particularly political stability he has provided, the former general secured the mandate in the July election. It was a triangular fight, others in the fray being a former president, Megawati Sukarnoputri on the Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) ticket and Golkar Party’s Jusuf Kalla.
The President’s party, centrist Democratic Party also did well at the hustings. It won most seats in parliament. The new Cabinet is a broad coalition of trusted technocrats and senior political leaders.
