Plan to build a road link to Tajikistan through Chitral has invited flak in POK as the locals are expecting the road to pass through Ghizer and thus open the road to local prosperity. The government plan is very unpopular here (POK and Gilgit) say local dailies. There is intense speculation that President Zardari is angling for a tie –up with Musharraf’s party as well but Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar maintains that there are no secret talks with either Musharraf or his party.

UNITED STATES
Daily Intekhab and Ummat editorially held America is responsible for 9/11 and the unrest in the world, especially in Pakistan. Pakistan has done everything for America’s war on terror and suffered great losses as a result, but instead of praising Pakistan, America wants to destroy Pakistan by demanding that it do more. Pakistan is hit by terrorism only because of American policies; and the first thing authorities should do is get rid of America and try to resolve internal problems amicably. TERRORISM- EXTREMISM

1. MQM terrorist network is controlled by Saleem Shehzad from Dubai. Fazil, a member of the group, gives instructions to MQM terrorist Saulat Mirza in Karachi Jail and then he, along with 15 other prisoners, sends messages to target killer groups in the city. These terrorists have been given special facilities by jail officials. (Ummat)

2. Navid Masud Hashimi writes: Ulema like Maulana Yousuf Ludhyanvi, Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, Maulana Nazir Tonsvi, Mufti Jamil Khan, Maulana Saeed Jalapuri, Mufti Ateeq Ur Rahman, Maulana Abdul Gafoor, Dr Habeebullah, and others were killed for speaking the truth and preaching Jihad in Karachi. In the name of alliance with the US in the war against terror former President Pervez Musharraf allowed targeting of Maulvis by security forces and ‘liberal terrorists’.  The expression, ‘liberal terrorists’, refers to activists of ANP, MQM and PPP.   Ajmal Pahadi, who allegedly killed 100 innocent people, had got his training in India along with 40 companions. According to Zulfiqar Mirza, Ajmal Pahadi belongs to MQM. (Al Qalam Weekly, 9-15 September)

3. JuD has set up a central control room in Badeen to provide relief and rescue operations to flood-affected people. JuD is sending cooked food by motor boats, tractor trolleys, trucks and jeeps. JuD’s volunteers are shifting people to safer areas using motor boats. (Daily Pak)

1. President House spokesperson Farhatullah Babar has denied media reports that the President was holding secret talks with Musharraf or his party. (Nawa-i-Waqt)

2. Asfandyar Wali has said that ANP will oppose MQM re-joining the government. (Khabrain)

3. NA Speaker, Fahmida Mirza and her husband, Zulfiqar Mirza, have reached Dubai. They have gone there to raise funds for the flood affected in Sindh, said informed sources. Mirzas may stay abroad for a long time. Fahmida Mirza has taken her husband abroad in order to keep him away from the worsening political logjam in Karachi. (Ibrat)

4. Minority Minister, Shahbaz Bhatti was killed in a conflict over business transactions, says IG-Islamabad.  (Nawa-i-Waqt)

5. On the appeal of JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan, JI will observe 16th September as Aafia Day. (Jinnah)

6. Lt. Gen (retd) Hamid Gul said that the persons specified by Zulfiqar Mirza should be called to open court. He said that this was a perfect time to talk with the US and the UK. He said that Sharia Law is the way to control Talibanisation as it was a uniform code for everyone. (Jinnah)

7. Nawa-i-Waqt editorial says it is a matter of shame that on Jinnah’s death anniversary the government of Pakistan pays homage at his grave, but has kept Jinnah’s property worth trillions under its custody, and thus forcing Jinnah’s family live in poverty. (Nawa-i-Waqt)

BALOCHISTAN

1. Pakistan wants Brahamdagh Bugti to return home and is opposed to Switzerland granting him political asylum at the behest of CIA and India. A high ranking official had helped Bugti to escape from Pakistan. (Ummat)

PUNJAB

1. Khidmat Khalq Foundation Chief Trustee, Mustafa Kamal has offered help to the Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif in combating the spread of the dengue virus. (Khabrain)

2. Punjab Government has decided to revoke the Governor’s right to make appointments to the Public Service Commission. (Nawa-i-Waqt)

SINDH
1. Sindh political leaders have admitted their failures in responding to the crisis thrown up floods in the province.  PPP’s Yusuf Talpur said he had made repeated attempts to meet with the PM and the President, but failed. He feels ashamed to be a representative in the NA as he is of no help to the people in distress. (Awami Awaz)

2. Sindh Unity Forum staged a protest in Karachi against official apathy towards the rain affected people. (Awami Awaz)

3. A UN official said devastation caused by rains in Sindh is much worse than what was conveyed by the Pakistani President. (Awami Awaz)

4. Flour has suddenly disappeared from the stores at Tharparkar. It is available in black-market though; the going price is Rs.1800 for a bag of 40 kgs of flour. (Awami Awaz)

POK NEWS

1. Daily Dharti says in an editorial people expected cross border trade to bring down prices of daily items but this has not happened. AJK traders are unhappy that the Trade and Travel Authority has given permission for cross border trade to non-(AJK) locals. Allowing non-state traders is against the interests of the AJK people. The AJK Government should take up the issue with the federal government and resolve the dispute so that both the sides of Kashmir could be benefit. (Daily Dharti Edit)

2. Baad-e-Shimal editorially has taken to task the chief minister of GB for not protesting the shifting of alignment of planned road to Tajikistan through Chitral in KP.’ Communication Minister, who is from KP, was personally interested that the Tajikistan road is built through his province and so he used his influence to have his way. Why GB chief minister didn’t protest with Islamabad, the editorial asked. . The daily also criticised the President for signing the agreement to build the Tajikistan road via Chitral instead of through Ghizer as planned earlier. “If the road is built via Ghizer, it would have benefited people of GB economically; more over the construction of the road via Ghizer is easier and less expensive”, the daily pointed out. 3. A social worker of Gilgit City, Rubina Aslam said that the Ghizer –Tajikistan road is very important for the economic progress of the region but the PPP government doesn’t want to provide this facility to the people. He warned that people would hit the streets in protests if the Chitral-Tajikistan road plan goes ahead.  (Ausaf, 12 September)

4. There is a culture of nepotism and bribes in government and quasi-government institutions in Gilgit Baltistan and the Graduate Association has warned the government of public protests if fresh recruitments are not based on merit. (Ausaf, 12 September)

6. President Zardari would soon visit Muzaffarabad in AJK to inaugurate Cadet College and also to announce a special aid package for development.  (Daily Dharti)

7. More than 1 billion rupees have been approved for redevelopment programs in quake-affected areas in AJK. Eight of these projects will come up in Rawalkot. (Daily Dharti)

8. Gilgit Tourism Department has earmarked Rs 31 lakh for the RAMA festival, but now the allocation has been reduced by 10 lakh rupees. (Baad-e-Shimal)

9. Baad-e-Shimal editorial has appreciated the JI-GB’s “Aman Conference”. Observing that the ruling PPP should have organized such a peace conference, the daily regrets that the PPP is only concerned about power and not its responsibility towards the people. The editorial notes that the Tourism Advisor, Saadia Danish has assured that she would consider the suggestions of the Aman Conference and said instead of a bureaucrat, the GB CM should take initiative in the matter.
